"No security in Ukraine means no security in Slovakia or Europe as a whole" - Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nikolenko
Kyiv/Bratislava, Ukraine/Slovakia (Svidomi) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has responded to the statements of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who spoke about a territorial compromise that Ukraine and, allegedly, Russia should make.
Robert Fico is known for his pro-Russian views. The Slovakian prime minister calls the West's strategy for Russia's war against Ukraine a failure, expresses support for Hungarian leader Viktor Orban, and calls for "relational recovery" with Russia.
This time, Fico called Ukraine a state "absolute US influence," reports the Slovak media outlet Aktuality.
"There must be some kind of compromise, which will be very painful for both sides. What do they expect? That the Russians will leave Crimea, Donbas and Luhansk? This is just not realistic,"
Fico said.
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oleh Nikolenko says that Ukraine is working with its partners to withdraw Russians from Crimea, Donbas and Luhansk to prevent them from moving to Košice, Prešov and other Slovak regions.
"There can be no compromise on territorial integrity. Neither for Ukraine nor for Slovakia, nor any other country," Nikolenko wrote.
On January 24, Robert Fico is due to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to hand over humanitarian aid. According to the Slovak PM, there will be no joint press conference after the meeting.
Fico plans to reiterate that he will not supply weapons to Ukraine. At the same time, there are no problems with commercial arms supplies from Slovakia to Ukraine.
