Ukraine and the United States sign Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen the Ukrainian energy system

Ukraine and the United States of America have signed an agreement to strengthen the Ukrainian energy system.

The press service of the US Embassy in Ukraine reported this.

"Our new energy agreement with Ukraine includes $522m to strengthen the grid, boost Euro integration, and improve corporate governance at state-owned energy enterprises," said US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink.

$422 million will be allocated as new energy aid. Ukraine will receive another $100 million if it meets the following conditions:

• approval of the new charter and establishment of the Supervisory Board of the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine LLC by October 30, 2023;

• progress in the implementation of the SE NNEGC Energoatom corporatization plan;

• launching the procedure, scope, and frequency of submission of information on trade in wholesale energy products related to the REMIT legislation (a set of European rules and practices aimed at preventing abuse in wholesale energy markets — ed.) by April 1, 2024.

It will be recalled that Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced an agreement with the United States on the joint production of weapons and defence systems.
