The Mayor of Budapest criticized the Hungarian government and Viktor Orban for buying gas from Russia

According to Karácsony, Orban's government pushes Hungary to the side of defeat and "is unable to distinguish the aggressor from the victim".

He noted that Orban's agreements with Putin harm the country and do not benefit Hungarians, and the allegedly cheap Russian gas is a scam. 

"We do not  receive anything for the irresponsible policies pursued by the government. We must get out of Putin's shadow, (...) we must choose energy independence instead of energy dependence," - the mayor of Budapest wrote.
