Relations between Russia and African countries may deteriorate as a result of the grain crisis - a study of publications in the world media

BRAND UKRAINE's analytical team analysed 26 thematic materials from the world's leading media. The task was to identify the key messages on the topic of the Russia-Africa 2023 summit scheduled for July 27-28 in St. Petersburg.

The report is available on the BRAND UKRAINE website.

The most frequently mentioned theses in the global media were:

1. Relations between Russia and Africa have become more complicated as a result of Russia's withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, the internal conflict between the Kremlin and the Wagner PMC, and the potential arrest of the Russian president during his visit to the BRICS summit in South Africa;

2. Statements about the important role that Russia plays in African economies are not true. China, the US and the EU have a greater influence on the African continent's economy;

3. Within African societies, there is a growing desire for reforms, including technological changes in various sectors of the economy, which goes against the pro-Russian political vector;

4. Russia's withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative threatens to deteriorate Russia's relations with African countries.

The publications chosen for the analysis are the New York Times, Associated Press, Voice of America, Washington Post, Politico, Independent, The Guardian, Newsweek, Financial Times and others. Their total audience is over 1.5 billion readers per month.
