Georgia restricts export and re-export of cars from the US to Russia
Since August 1, Georgia has restricted the export and re-export of cars from the United States to Russia.
This is reported by RFE/RL's Echo of the Caucasus, citing the Georgia Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance.
The agency also reported restrictions on exporting and re-exporting cars imported from the EU. The ban will take effect on 26 September 2023.
According to the Service, such changes are provided for by the 11th EU sanctions package.
Earlier, the EU imposed sanctions on imports of cars with an engine capacity of more than 1.9 litres and electric and hybrid cars to Russia.
As reported, on July 3, Minister of Economy Levan Davitashvili stated that Georgia hopes to continue re-exporting cars to Russia, which is an important source of income for the country.
