CNN: Russia producing three times more artillery shells than US and Europe for Ukraine
Moscow, Russia (Svidomi) — Russia produces about 250,000 artillery munitions a month, nearly three times as many as the United States and Europe produce for Ukraine, CNN reports.
The United States and Europe have the capacity to generate only about 1.2 million munitions annually for Ukraine, a senior European intelligence official told CNN. This is three times less than Russia produces for itself.
Earlier, Estonian intelligence reported the Russian Armed Forces had three to four times more ammunition per day than Ukrainian troops.
"Since the summer of 2022, Russia has made serious efforts to increase artillery ammunition production. In collaboration with the defence ministry, Russia’s MIC has mapped production capacities, identified production bottlenecks and implemented measures to reduce their impact," the Estonian report says.
The gap in available artillery ammunition between Ukraine and Russia will grow even further in 2024, the intelligence adds. According to their data, the Russian army currently uses up to 10,000 artillery shells a day, while the Ukrainian military uses up to two thousand.
"What we are in now is a production war. The outcome in Ukraine depends on how each side is equipped to conduct this war," a senior NATO official told CNN.
It will be recalled that the Czech Republic has raised the necessary funds to purchase 800,000 artillery shells for Ukraine. According to President Petr Pavel, the shells will be manufactured in the next few weeks.
At the same time, the United States has not yet made a decision on whether to provide Ukraine with $60 billion in aid. On March 9, NBC reported, citing its sources, that Republicans in the US House of Representatives were developing their own aid package for Ukraine.
Svidomi has already told what was happening in the US Congress and why funding for Ukraine was delayed.
