The Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh will cease to exist from January 1, 2024

The leader of the unrecognised Nagorno-Karabakh, Samvel Shakhramanyan, has signed a decree to end the existence of the Republic as of next year.

This was reported by the state-run Armenian news agency Armenpress.

By that time, "all state institutions and organisations under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) will be dissolved".

The local population, having familiarised themselves with the conditions of reintegration provided by the Republic of Azerbaijan, can decide on their own whether to stay or return to Nagorno-Karabakh.

It will be recalled that on September 19, Azerbaijan announced "local anti-terrorist measures" in Nagorno-Karabakh. On September 20, the President of Azerbaijan stated that the country had restored its sovereignty in the region.

On September 21, representatives of Azerbaijan and the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh discussed the reintegration of the region's population.

Later, it became known that 191 Azerbaijani servicemen had been killed in the battles for Nagorno-Karabakh.
