Azerbaijan announces 'local anti-terrorist measures' in Nagorno-Karabakh

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence has launched "anti-terrorist operations" in Nagorno-Karabakh to restore the constitutional structure of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

This is a statement by the Ministry of Defence.

Azerbaijan has accused Armenia of violating the Trilateral Statement signed on November 10, 2020, by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Russian Federation. Armenian troops allegedly opened fire in the direction of Azerbaijani positions. Armenia called the statement "disinformation".

The Azerbaijani military is using "high-precision weapons" to hit military targets.

"We reiterate that civilians and civilian infrastructure are not targets; only legitimate military targets are being disabled," the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry says in a statement.

The ministry claims that it has already informed the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent and the leadership of the Joint Turkish-Russian Monitoring Centre of its actions.

Azerbaijan also claims that on September 19, several civilians were killed when they hit a mine planted by "reconnaissance and sabotage groups of the Armenian armed forces". The car they were travelling in belonged to the State Road Agency of Azerbaijan.

In addition, police officers of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country hit a mine. There are dead and wounded.
