The Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia urges the country to avoid politicising the incident with the explosive device allegedly transported from Ukraine to Russia

Tbilisi, Georgia (Svidomi) — the Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia calls on the Georgian side to refrain from politicizing the incident with the explosive device that was allegedly transported from Ukraine to Russia through the territory of Georgia.

The Ukrainian side is interested and ready for "constructive" interaction with the law enforcement and other competent bodies of Georgia in order to "objectively, impartially and comprehensively clarify all the circumstances of the case, as well as to establish its real organizers".

"The Embassy of Ukraine is verifying the information made public at the briefing of the State Security Service of Georgia, is clarifying all the circumstances, in particular regarding, as was reported, the involvement of Ukrainian citizens in illegal activities," the Embassy said.

The State Security Service of Georgia announced on February 5 the detention of a cargo that allegedly contained explosives that were being transported from the Ukrainian city of Odessa to the Russian city of Voronezh for "the purpose of carrying out terrorist acts."

Georgian intelligence claims that the explosives were brought from the Ukrainian port city of Odesa through Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey to Georgia on January 19 in a minivan owned by a Ukrainian citizen. The explosive devices were allegedly planned to bring to Russia, namely to the city of Voronezh, in the west of the Russian Federation. (Kharkiv is the closest Ukrainian city to Voronezh, it is located over 350 kilometers away. Odesa is located over a thousand kilometers away - ed.).
