Zelenskyy imposes sanctions against Georgian Airways, which resumed flights to Russia

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree enacting the decision of the National Security and Defence Council to impose sanctions on 193 individuals and 291 legal entities.

The decree was published on the President's website.

The sanctions list includes Russians, Russian companies, and Georgian Airways airline, which has resumed flights to Russia.

Restrictions were also imposed on the founder of the airline, Tamaz Gaiashvili.

It will be recalled that on May 10, Vladimir Putin lifted the ban on flights to Georgia, which had been in place since 2019, and cancelled the visa regime for the country's citizens.

The government of Georgia allowed direct flights by non-sanctioned Russian airlines. A rally against the resumption of flights with Russia was held outside the Georgian Foreign Ministry.

President Salome Zourabichvili called the decision a provocation by the Russian Federation and stressed that she considered the resumption of direct flights with Russia absolutely unacceptable.

Georgian Airways resumed flights with Russia and announced the launch of transit flights for Russians via Tbilisi to Europe.
