US Secretary of State: Suspension of US aid to Ukraine has already had consequences on the battlefield
Washington DC, USA (Svidomi) — The US Congress still has not approved funds to help Ukraine, which has already had consequences on the battlefield in Russia's war against Ukraine, said Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a joint conference with Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General.
During the meeting, Blinken and Stoltenberg discussed the progress of the Allies in building up defence production and expressed concern over the DPRK's export of military equipment to Russia and its use of these weapons against Ukraine.
"Everything that Ukraine has achieved and we [the United States] have helped them achieve will be in jeopardy. And absent that supplemental, we're going to be sending a strong and wrong message to all our adversaries that we are not serious about the defence of freedom, the defence of democracy. It will simply reinforce for Vladimir Putin that he can somehow outlast Ukraine and outlast us," the US Secretary of State commented on the delay in aid.
Anthony Blinken did not specify what consequences on the battlefield he was talking about. According to reports on the frontline, Russian troops are advancing near Avdiivka and Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, which has been partially occupied since 2014, as well as near Kupiansk in Kharkiv, which borders Russia to the east.
"Supporting Ukraine is not charity, it is an investment in our own security, because the world will become more dangerous if [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin wins in Ukraine. This is also being closely watched in China... so it's even more important that we continue to support Ukraine," NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg said.
It will be recalled that the US suspends military aid to Ukraine until Congress approves funding. On December 27, 2023, the United States provided the last military aid package for which it had enough money.
