US President Joe Biden has agreed with the wording of NATO allies on Ukraine's future ability to join NATO
US President Joe Biden has agreed with the wording of NATO allies on Ukraine's future ability to join NATO.
This is reported by CNN.
He said this a few minutes after Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticised the allies for discussing the wording of an invitation to invite Ukraine to NATO without the Ukrainian side.
"We agree on the language that we proposed – and you proposed relative to the future of Ukraine being able to join NATO. We’re looking for a continued, united NATO,” Biden said in brief remarks alongside NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the summit site.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasised security guarantees for the period after the war.
"From the very beginning, it is important for us that Ukraine has security commitments that can be effective after peace," he said.
Scholz also notes that it is crucial to continue to provide military support to Ukraine. The Alliance should take a joint decision on this and further develop the decisions of the 2008 Bucharest Summit.
