US military aid to Ukraine is suspended until Congress approves funding

US military aid to Ukraine has been suspended until Congress approves new funding. 

National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby said this during a briefing at the White House. 

On December 27, 2023, the United States provided the last military aid package for which it had enough money.

"The — the assistance that we provided has now ground to a halt.  The attacks that the Russians are conducting are only increasing.  And now, as I talked about earlier this week, they’re using North Korean ballistic missiles to do their dirty work," Kirby said.

On October 20, 2023, US President Joe Biden submitted a request to Congress for approximately $106 billion in additional funding. Joe Biden asked Congress for $61.4 billion for Ukraine. The funding included assistance to Ukraine ($61.4 billion, the largest package) and Israel ($14.3 billion). 

On December 6, the bill failed to pass a procedural vote in the US Senate. The document was blocked because representatives of the Republican Party insisted on strengthening migration control measures at the US-Mexico border. Svidomi wrote about this in detail in its explainer.
