US intelligence has "no reason to doubt" Vladimir Putin's claim that Russia has already moved the first batch of tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus
US intelligence has no doubt that Russia has already moved some of its tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus.
This was reported by CNN.
In June, at an economic forum in St. Petersburg, Putin announced the "first [Russian] nuclear warheads on the territory of Belarus", which were deployed there for "deterrence".
"It is difficult for US intelligence to track these weapons even with satellite imagery," the report said.
In addition, the US intelligence community is convinced that the movement of weapons to Belarus will not increase the risk of a nuclear incident. The weapons, in their opinion, are likely to be stored in warehouses rather than used on the front line.
Last week, when asked about the movement of nuclear weapons, UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace told CNN that Putin "doesn't always lie" and the UK "has seen signs that this is happening". However, Wallace did not specify what those signs were.
