Ukraine will still sue Poland, Hungary and Slovakia in the WTO but offers a compromise

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that Ukraine will file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organisation against Poland, Hungary and Slovakia over unilateral restrictions on agricultural imports. At the same time, the Government of Ukraine is offering a compromise to the EU and its neighbours.

He announced it on his social media accounts.

The Government has already submitted an action plan to control exports of four groups of agricultural products to the European Commission. In particular, Ukraine plans to adopt a resolution stipulating that goods exported to five neighbouring countries will be subject to verification and approval by the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy.

"Such control will help prevent any market distortions in neighbouring EU member states," Shmyhal added.

At the same time, Ukraine has already filed a formal request to Poland, Hungary and Slovakia on violation of the World Trade Organisation's rules.

"We are launching an anti-discrimination investigation against the unfriendly actions of these countries in the trade sphere based on 2023 statistics," Shmyhal said.

Suppose Poland and Hungary do not agree to the measures agreed with the European Commission and do not lift their unilateral bans on Ukrainian goods. In that case, Ukraine will decide to ban imports of certain categories of goods from these countries.
