Ukraine to boycott boxing world championships due to participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes

Vice President of the Ukrainian Boxing Federation Oleh Ilchenko said the Ukrainian national boxing team would not compete at the World Boxing Championships among women and men in 2023. The IBA made the decision back in October 2022, when it lifted the ban on boxers from these countries from participating in the competition.

Boxing federations from nine countries have already announced a boycott of the tournaments: the USA, Poland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Sweden and Canada.

"Our answer is clear: our athletes and representatives of the Ukrainian Boxing Federation will not compete where representatives of the aggressor countries, namely Russia and Belarus, will compete," said Oleg Ilchenko.
