The Verkhovna Rada supported the draft laws on expanding the NABU staff and the powers of the NACP. They were among the requirements of the European Commission to start EU accession negotiations
The Verkhovna Rada has voted in the second reading to expand the staff of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the National Agency for Corruption Prevention. These were among the requirements of the European Commission to start negotiations on EU accession.
The People's Deputy from the Holos (Voice) party, Yaroslav Zhelezniak, announced this.
The first law increases the number of NABU staff from 700 to 1,000 and the number of senior staff from 500 to 750. This will be done in stages and through competition: in 2024 — by 100 positions; in 2025 — by 100 positions; in 2026 — by 100 positions.
The second one allows the NACP to re-check the assets and property of officials they acquired before being appointed to public office.
In addition, the Parliament supported the draft law on the rights of national minorities. The law guarantees the right to use minority languages alongside the state language. This was also a requirement of the European Commission.
