The United States has given Ukraine more aid than any other country since the Marshall Plan — The Washington Post
Ukraine has received $60 billion in aid from the United States since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. The total US defence budget for 2023 is $1.77 trillion.
The Washington Post reported this.
According to journalists' estimates, $43 billion of the total financial assistance was allocated for military needs.
The day after the full-scale invasion, US President Biden announced the first military aid package worth $350 million. The package included small arms and ammunition, as well as body armour and equipment for "Ukraine's front-line defenders."
"This would be the first of dozens of packages announced for Ukraine as the war continued," the publication added.
In addition, the United States has allocated about $20.5 billion in budget support for Ukraine, as well as more than $2.6 billion for humanitarian needs. In particular, this includes support for displaced people, refugees, and other vulnerable populations in Ukraine and abroad.
Michael O'Hanlon, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, compared the amount of aid to the US commitments to European countries at the end of World War II.
"These are off-the-charts numbers," O'Hanlon said.
The Marshall Plan, when adjusted for inflation, was approximately $150 billion over three years.
