The City Court of Prague has partially lifted the restrictions on the Russian Alexandr Franchetti who is accused of participating in the occupation of Crimea

Czech radio iROZHLAS reports this.

The Russian was released from custody due to a lack of evidence. He is suspected of illegally detaining at least 11 pro-Ukrainian people.

The verdict is not final because he can be sentenced to 15 years in prison for creating an illegal military formation to commit a terrorist attack.

In February 2014, Franchetti came to Sevastopol and committed an illegal armed formation "Defense of Sevastopol,” as well as financed and became the leader of the "Northern Wind" unit.

According to the indictment, both illegal groups were to "contribute to the illegal occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol through sabotage, including armed attacks against Ukrainian government forces, the Ukrainian population, and critical infrastructure."

In September 2021, the Czech police detained a Russian at Ukraine's request.
