The Belohirsk (Qarasuvbazar) Reservoir in the temporarily occupied Qirim is rapidly shrinking. Experts say that this phenomenon is nothing new.

Locals report that water is being heavily discharged into the Biyuk-Karasu River after the North Crimean Canal was devastated by the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP.

The water is used for the needs of the South-Eastern Qirim.

"The local authorities used to boast that the resumption of water supply to the North Crimean Canal was one of their main achievements. Now they are silent, and we have less and less water," said a resident of the temporarily occupied Krynychne.

At the same time, the occupation authorities of Qirim maintain a high water level in the Aqmescit (Simferopol) reservoir. The Russian Federation had previously claimed that it had enough water in Qirim for another year.

"The shoaling itself already occurred in 2020, and everything that could be lost ... was lost three years ago. Now the ecosystem there is unstable, it can be destroyed again, but we will not see any noticeable consequences for the region. The quality of the water stored in the reservoir will be worse. Still, given the quality of the water supply systems, the end user will not notice this," said Yevhen Khlobystov, professor of the Department of Ecology at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
