The air alert in the Kharkiv region lasted over 16 hours non-stop. Russians targeted 11 regions of Ukraine over the past day

On the night of May 17, Russians attacked Ukraine with 20 Iranian Shahed strike drones. Air defense forces downed all of the drones within the Kharkiv, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Odesa, and Mykolaiv regions.

In the Kharkiv region, bordering Russia in the east, Russian shelling killed two people in Synelnykove and Krasne. Another seven people were injured in Vovchansk (5) and Synelnykove (2). Russians shelled Kharkiv three times and damaged residential and office buildings.

In the Kherson region, partially occupied since 2022, Russian troops fired at 15 settlements. The shelling damaged four multi-storey buildings and seven private houses, hitting a medical facility and a store. Two people died and six others were injured as a result of Russian aggression. At night and in the morning, Russians shelled Kherson's central district, damaging residential buildings.

In the Donetsk region, partially occupied since 2014 and located on the frontline in the east of Ukraine, Russians opened fire ten times overnight on localities. Five people were wounded in Mykhailivka. Residential buildings were damaged in Bohoiavlenka, the Chasiv Yar community, Zalizne and Siversk. An enterprise in the Volnovakha district was also damaged.

During the day, the Russian army launched 438 attacks on the Zaporizhzhia region, which has been partially occupied in the south since 2022. Huliaipole, Levadne, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka and Novoandriivka were shelled. There were four reports of residential buildings being destroyed.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, southcentral Ukraine, one of the most important industrial regions of the country, Russian troops attacked Nikopol, Marhanets, Myrove and Pokrovsk rural communities. Artillery shelling damaged a power facility and four power lines. In Nikopol, next to the temporarily occupied Enerhodar, where Zaporizhzhia NPP is located, a private house, an outbuilding and an infrastructure facility were damaged.

In the Sumy region, bordering Russia to the north, Russians fired 41 times at the border areas and settlements. The Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivska, Nova Sloboda, Hlukhiv, Esman, Shalyhyne, Druzhbivka, Seredyna Buda, and Znob-Novhorod communities came under fire.

In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the north, Semenivka, Snovske, Horodnianka and Novhorod-Siverskyi communities sustained shelling with 134 explosions recorded over the day.

In the Mykolaiv region, south of Ukraine, Russians shelled the Kutsurb community with artillery and a drone. There were no casualties reported.
