Switzerland to sell Leopard 2 A4 tanks to Germany on condition that they are not transferred to Ukraine
The Swiss Federal Council has approved the export of 25 Leopard 2 A4 main battle tanks to Germany. However, the condition is that these tanks will remain either in Germany or in NATO or EU countries.
The government's website says this.
The tanks are ready to be sold to their original manufacturer, the German company Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH.
On February 23, 2023, German Minister of Economic Affairs Robert Habeck and Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius asked the Swiss government to sell some of the 87 decommissioned Leopard 2 A4 battle tanks back to the German manufacturer Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH. Germany vows not to send tanks to Ukraine.
