Swedish Defence Minister calls on society not to take peace as a constant and to prepare for a possible war

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Sweden Micael Bydén and Minister of Civil Defence Carl-Oskar Bohlin have stated that all citizens of the country should be prepared for war.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Swedish Armed Forces Mikael Büden and the Minister of Civil Defence Carl-Oskar Bohlin said this at the annual Folk och Försvar defence conference, The Local reports.

According to Minister Bohlin, all Swedes need to act now to increase the country's resilience if war breaks out. He believes that the situation is serious and is concerned that the modernisation of civil defence is not happening fast enough.

"All Swedes need to act now to boost the country’s resilience in the event of war. Peace is not a fixed constant. Many people have said it before me, but let me make it official, more direct and clear: there could be a war in Sweden,"

Bohlin said.

The minister therefore called on citizens to help build a "complete defence" of Sweden.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Büden, also believes that "this is a very serious situation".

In his words, much has been done in recent years to strengthen the country's security. In addition, Sweden is on the verge of joining NATO.

"We need to realise how serious this situation is... Watch the news from Ukraine and ask yourself simple questions: if this happens here, am I okay? What should I do? The more people who think, reflect and prepare, the stronger our society is,"

he stressed.
