Sweden has no plans to transfer JAS 39 Gripen jets to Ukraine — Prime Minister Kristersson
Sweden has no plans to transfer Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine because of the need for these aircraft in the Swedish Air Force, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson told TV4.
Ulf Kristersson explained this decision by the fact that Sweden is a geographically large country and needs aircraft for its own defence.
"Sweden is a geographically large country, we have to defend ourselves, and we are not yet in NATO. It's a balancing act between what we can share with them and what we need to have ourselves. We are now part of the so-called F-16 coalition, where we are working with 14 countries to ensure that Ukraine gets the flying capacity," said Ulf Kristersson.
It will be recalled that Sweden allowed Ukrainian pilots to practice on its JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets. Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson said that several experienced Ukrainian pilots would be able to practice on simulators and test the JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets.
