Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff decides to strengthen control of Belarus border

On May 30, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff held a meeting at which its members decided to take additional security measures in the Ukraine-Belarus direction.

This was announced by the President of Ukraine.

This was preceded by reports that the construction of bases for the Wagner PMC militants had begun in Belarus.

At the same time, the head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, said that the Wagner militants would not pose a threat to Ukraine and that these bases would be used to provide logistical support for Wagner operations in Africa.

In contrast, Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhnyy said that the presence of Wagnerians in Belarus could pose a threat.

The Ukrainian special services and the State Border Guard Service reported to the meeting of the Staff on the situation in the neighbouring country. Given the information presented, Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyy and the commander of the Pivnich (North) operational-strategic group, Serhii Naiev, were ordered to strengthen this area.
