Six children injured in missile attack on orphanage in Sumy

On the night of September 2, Russia attacked Ukraine with 35 missiles of various types and 23 combat drones. The Air Defence reported shooting down nine ballistic and 13 cruise missiles and 20 combat drones in the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions. 

In the Sumy region, bordering Russia to the north, the Russian army launched a missile attack on Sumy. Six multi-storey buildings, an orphanage, and a centre for social and psychological rehabilitation of children in the region were damaged. Eighteen people were injured, including six children.

In the Donetsk region, partially occupied since 2014 and located on the frontline in the east of Ukraine, the Russians struck 2,246 times at Kostiantynivka, Kurakhove, Siversk, Toretsk, Petrivka, Shcherbynivka, and Yablunivka. They damaged 13 residential buildings and two cars. A total of 11 people were injured, and five were killed. 

In the Luhansk region, almost completely occupied by Russia, the Russians attacked Nevske and Makiivka with cannon artillery, MLRS and combat drones. The regional military administration reported no casualties. 

In the Kharkiv region, bordering Russia in the east of Ukraine, the Russians shelled Kharkiv. A shopping centre and the Sports Palace were damaged. Fifty people were injured, including seven children, two medics, and two rescuers. The Russians also shelled Kupiansk, Rubizhne, Ruski Tyshky, Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, Eskhar, Podoly, Liubotyn, Staryi Merchyk. Seven people were wounded, and one person was killed. 

In the Dnipropetrovsk region in south-central Ukraine, the Russians shelled Nikopol and the Marhanets community. Private houses, outbuildings, a gas pipeline and a power line were damaged. Dry grass caught fire. Two people were injured. 

In the Zaporizhzhia region, partially occupied in the south since 2022, the Russian army fired 171 times at Huliaipole, Robotyne, Novodanilivka, Lobkove, Piatykhatky, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, Preobrazhenka, and Poltavka. Nine private houses were destroyed. The regional military administration reports no casualties. 

In the Kherson region, partially occupied since 2022, the Russians shelled Antonivka, Sadove, Blahovishchenske, Kizomys, Bilozerka, Stanislav, Oleksandrivka, Pryozerne, Myroliubivka, Novoberyslav, Kachkarivka, Havrylivka, and Kherson. A critical infrastructure facility, educational institutions, a health centre, a banking institution, ten multi-storey buildings, 24 private houses, a gas pipeline, and private cars were damaged. Two people were injured. 

In the Mykolaiv region in the south of Ukraine, the Russians fired FPV combat drones at the Kutsurub community. Four residential buildings were damaged in Solonchaky. As a result of one of the attacks, dry grass caught fire in an open area. The regional military administration reports no casualties. 

In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the north, the Russians shelled the communities of Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk with mortars and artillery. The regional military administration reports no casualties. 

In the Kyiv region, the Russian army launched a missile attack on Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. The debris of the downed missiles fell in the Holosiivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts. Two people were injured. As a result of shelling, the building of the Islamic cultural center in the Nyvky district was damaged.
