Security Service of Ukraine confirm the identity of a serviceman who was shot after saying "Glory to Ukraine!"

SBU reported this in its Telegram.

The Russians shot dead Oleksandr Matsiievskyi, a sniper of the 163rd battalion of the 119th separate brigade of the Territorial Defence of the Chernihiv region.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Oleksandr Matsiievskyi the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously.

Matsiievskyi was called up for military service in March 2022. Since the end of December, he had been missing near the village of Krasna Hora in the Donetsk region. The man was shot dead on 30 December 2022. His body was returned home in February 2023.

SBU managed to confirm the man's identity after talking to his relatives and colleagues, as well as processing photo and video materials. In addition, the SBU received the results of a forensic portrait examination.

SBU Head Vasyl Maliuk said the special service is working to identify the Russians who committed the crime.
