Russian shelling of Sumy leaves one dead and 9 injured, residents asked to close windows and doors due to fire

On the night of August 30, Russia launched one Iskander-M ballistic missile and 18 Shahed combat drones. The Ukrainian Air Force shot down 12 Shahed-131/136 drones and four drones lost radar contact (went down) in the Vinnytsia, Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Kherson and Sumy regions.

In the Sumy region,  bordering Russia to the north, the Russians targeted the communities of Sumy, Bilopillia, Esman, Znob-Novhorod, Svesa, Druzhbivka, Shalyhyne, Nova Sloboda, Hlukhiv, Krasnopillia and Seredyna-Buda with guided missile systems, FPV drones, UAVs, mortars, artillery and MLRS. One civilian was reported killed and 9 injured as a result of the Russian attack on the city of Sumy. Residents are being urged to close their windows and doors because of the fire.

In the Kherson region, south of Ukraine, Russian forces shelled Kherson, Antonivka, Sadove, Prydniprovske, Inzhenerne, Bilozerka, Komyshany, Pryozerne, Shyroka Balka, Novodmytrivka, Poniativka, Tokarivka, Beryslav, Shliakhove, Mykhailivka, Novovorontsovka, Shostakove, Orlove, Arkhanhelske, Potomkyne, Burhunka, Tomaryne and Kachkarivka. As a result of the Russian aggression, six civilians were injured and a post office, a supermarket and a shop, high-rise buildings and private houses, gas pipelines, a lock-up and vehicles were damaged.

In the Donetsk region, located on the frontline in the east of Ukraine and partially occupied since 2014, Russia attacked Kostiantynivka, Kurakhove, Pokrovsk, Sloviansk, Toretsk, Ukrainsk, Chasiv Yar, Vovchenka, Izmailivka and Tarasivka. As a result of Russian artillery shelling and UAV strikes, one civilian was killed and 6 others were injured in Kostiantynivka. Five residents of Chasiv Yar, Ukrainsk and Kurakhove were injured, including a child born in 2013. The shelling damaged or destroyed residential buildings, petrol stations, cars, water supplies, gas pipelines and power lines.

Over the past 24 hours, Russian troops have used artillery, MLRS and UAVs to attack Bohuslavka, Izium, Osynove and Novoosynove, Zamulivka, Novoplatonivka, Zolochiv, Zarichne and Odnorobivka in the Kharkiv region, bordering Russia in the east of Ukraine. Four civilians were injured in the shelling of Novoosynove. Residential buildings, a private company, outbuildings and vehicles were damaged.  

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, south-central Ukraine, the Russians attacked the communities of Nikopol, Pokrovske, Chervonohryhorivka and Marhanets with artillery, MLRS and drones. One civilian was killed and 6 others were injured as a result of the attacks. A shopping centre, an educational institution, a business, apartment blocks, private houses, outbuildings, transport, a gas pipeline and power lines were damaged.

In the Chernihiv region, south-central Ukraine, Russian troops fired artillery, mortars and UAVs at border villages in the Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnianka and Snovsk communities. During the night, the Russians also launched a rocket attack on the village of Bylka in the Korop community. As a result of the Russian attacks, a shop and a private house were damaged in the Novhorod-Siverskyi community, and houses and outbuildings in the Semenivka community. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, partially occupied in the south since 2022, the Russians shelled Huliaipole, Novoandriivka, Preobrazhenka, Prymorske, Orikhove, Uspenivka, Novodanylivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka and Olhivske with UAVs, MLRS and artillery. In total, the Russians carried out 317 attacks on nine settlements. The attacks damaged or destroyed infrastructure and residential buildings. No casualties were reported.

In the Mykolaiv region, south of Ukraine, Russia shelled the waters of the Ochakiv community with artillery. No casualties or damage were reported. 

In the Luhansk region, almost completely occupied by Russia, the Russian army repeatedly shelled Nevske and Makiivka with artillery, UAVs and MLRS. In Nevske, residential buildings were destroyed.
