Russian shelling of Nikopol district injures a pregnant woman and a four-year-old boy

On the night of October 16, Russia attacked Ukrainian cities with S-300/400 anti-aircraft guided missiles, X-59 guided missiles, and 136 Shahed combat UAVs. Aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Air Force and Defense Forces were involved in repelling the attack. As of 11:00 a.m., 51 enemy UAVs were shot down as a result of the air battle, and 60 drones and an X-59 aircraft missile lost radar contact in different regions of Ukraine. 

In the Dnipropetrovsk region in south-central Ukraine, Russian troops shelled Nikopol and the communities of Myrove, Chervonohryhorivka, Pokrovsk, and Marhanets with artillery and UAVs. A pregnant woman and a four-year-old boy were injured in the shelling of the Marhanets community. Infrastructure, a business, private houses, outbuildings, an excavator, a gas pipeline, and power lines were damaged.

In the Kharkiv region, bordering Russia to the east, the Russians attacked Kharkiv, Kupiansk, and Kruhliakivka with aircraft and UAVs. The shelling of Kruhliakivka killed a 67-year-old man and damaged a house and an outbuilding. In Kupiansk, a vehicle was damaged.

In the Kherson region in the south of Ukraine, partially occupied since 2022, the Russian Federation shelled Kherson, Antonivka, Sadove, Komyshany, Veletenske, Inzhenerne, Stanislav, Dniprovske, Bilozerka, Oleksandrivka, Shyroka Balka, Beryslav, Sablukivka, Chervonyi Maiak, and Mylove with aircraft and artillery. Six civilians were injured as a result of the Russian aggression. The Russian military hit a critical infrastructure facility, an educational institution, an administrative building, multi-story and private houses, outbuildings, a garage, and vehicles.

In the Donetsk region, partially occupied since 2014 and located on the frontline in the east of Ukraine, Russian troops attacked Kostiantynivka, Selydove, Ivanopillia, Ostrovske, Svitle, and Stepanivka. Three civilians were injured in Kostiantynivka and Svitle. Residential buildings, educational and cultural institutions, a farm, a boiler house, a garage, power lines, and vehicles were damaged.

In the Zaporizhzhia region in the south, partially occupied in the south since 2022, the Russians attacked Stepnohirsk, Huliaipole, Lobkove, Prymorske, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Malynivka, Mala Tokmachka, and Levadne with UAVs, aircraft, MLRS, and artillery. In total, the Russians struck nine localities in the Zaporizhzhia region with 388 missiles. There were 14 reports of destruction of residential buildings and infrastructure. No civilians were injured.

In the Mykolaiv region in the south of Ukraine, Russia attacked the communities of Ochakiv and Kutsurub. Private houses and power lines were damaged as a result of Russian aggression. There were no casualties. 

In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the north, Russian troops attacked settlements in the communities of Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Horodnia with mortars and UAVs. There were no reports of damage or casualties. 

In the Sumy region, bordering Russia to the north, the Russians attacked the communities of Khotin, Yunakivka, Nova Sloboda, and Shalyhyne with guided aerial bombs, UAVs, and mortars. There is no information on casualties or damage.

In the Luhansk region, almost completely occupied by Russia, Russia attacked Hrekivka, Makiivka, and Balka Zhuravka with artillery, aircraft, and UAVs. There is no information on casualties or damage.
