Russian shelling kills five people in Donetsk region on August 19
On the night of August 20, 2024, Russia attacked Ukraine with two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, an Iskander-K cruise missile, Х-59 guided missiles and 26 Shahed combat drones. The Air Force reported the destruction of an Iskander-K cruise missile, two Х-59 guided missiles, and 25 Shahed-131/136 combat drones in the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Kirovohrad, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions.
In the Kharkiv region, bordering Russia in the east of Ukraine, the Russians shelled Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, Borova, Odnorobivka, Kozacha Lopan, Kupiansk, Nyzhne Solone, Andriivka, and Novosynove. Four people were injured.
In the Sumy region, bordering Russia to the north, the Russians struck 266 times in 32 settlements. They damaged ten private houses, a church building, one apartment building, cell phone tower equipment, and set fire to wood in a factory warehouse. Three people were injured.
In the Donetsk region, partially occupied since 2014 and located on the frontline in the east of Ukraine, the Russian army launched 2725 attacks on Kurakhove, Myrnohrad, Selydove, Siversk, Toretsk, Chasiv Yar, Velyka Novoselivka, Zarichne, Kurakhivka, Katerynivka, Nove, Novoandriivka, Toretsk, and Shakhtarsk. Eighteen residential buildings, an administrative building, an enterprise, an educational institution, garages and cars were damaged. Seven people were injured. Five people were killed.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region in south-central Ukraine, the Russians shelled Nikopol, the Synelnykove district and the Marhanets community. One person was injured.
In the Zaporizhzhia region in the south, partially occupied in the south since 2022, the Russian army launched 376 attacks on Piatykhatky, Malynivka, Robotyne, Huliaipole, Novoandriivka, Chervonodniprovka, Stepnohirsk, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, and Levadne. Nine private houses were destroyed. The regional military administration reports no casualties.
In the Mykolaiv region in the south of Ukraine, the Russians shelled the Kutsurub community. The regional military administration reports no casualties.
In the Kherson region, partially occupied since 2022, the Russians shelled Antonivka, Beryslav, Burhunka, Bilozerka, Blahovishchenske, Tomyna Balka, Chervonyi Maiak, Poniativka, Pervomaiske, Pryozerne, Sadove, Komyshany, Mykhailivka, Olhivka, and Kherson. Seventeen private houses, gas pipelines, an outbuilding, a garage and private cars were damaged. Four people were injured, including one child.
In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the north, the Russians shelled the communities of Novhorod-Siverskyi, Snovsk, and Semenivka. The regional military administration reports no casualties.
In the Ternopil region in the west of Ukraine, the Russians attacked an industrial facility in Ternopil. A fire broke out. Rescue operations are ongoing. The city military administration reports no casualties.
