Russian shelling injures nine civilians on October 16
On the night of October 17, Russia attacked Ukraine with an X-59 guided missile and 56 combat drones. The Air Force reported the downing of 22 combat drones in the Sumy, Kyiv, Poltava, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Cherkasy, Odesa, and Ternopil regions. Another 27 drones lost radar contact due to active electronic warfare countermeasures.
In the Kharkiv region, bordering Russia in the east of Ukraine, the Russians shelled Shevchenkove and Oleksandrivka. The regional military administration reports no casualties.
In the Donetsk region, partially occupied since 2014 and located on the frontline in the east of Ukraine, the Russian army shelled Kurakhove, Pokrovsk, Toretsk, Chasiv Yar, and the villages of Mykolaivka and Romanivka. Twenty-five residential buildings and a gas pipeline were damaged. Three civilians were wounded.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region in south-central Ukraine, the Russians shelled Nikopol and the communities of Marhanets, Myrove, and Chervonohryhorivka. Infrastructure, a private house, an outbuilding, and a power line were damaged. The regional military administration reports no casualties.
In the Zaporizhzhia region in the south, partially occupied in the south since 2022, the Russians launched 424 attacks on eight settlements. Thirteen residential buildings were damaged. The regional military administration reports no casualties.
In the Mykolaiv region in the south of Ukraine, the Russians shelled the energy infrastructure. Part of the region was left without electricity. The regional military administration reports no casualties.
In the Kherson region in the south of Ukraine, partially occupied since 2022, the Russians shelled Tiahynka, Mykhailivka, Stanislav, Sofiivka, Beryslav, Novokairy, Komyshany, Veletenske, Havrylivka, Bilozerka, Osokorivka, Chervonyi Maiak, Shliakhove, Burhunka, Sadove, Antonivka, Prydniprovske, Inzhenerne, Zmiivka, and Kherson. Five high-rise buildings, ten private houses, a service station, and private cars were damaged. Six civilians were injured.
In the Kyiv region, the Russians shelled Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, with combat drones. A residential building was damaged. The local military administration reports no casualties.
In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the north, the Russians attacked the communities of Novhorod-Siverskyi, Snovsk, and Semenivka. The regional military administration reports no casualties.
In the Sumy region, bordering Russia to the north, the Russians struck 121 times at 30 settlements in the region. A private house was damaged. The local police reported no casualties.
