Russian missile strike on the Odesa region kills a civilian

On the night of October 8, Russia launched two Iskander-M ballistic missiles and 19 combat drones into Ukraine. The Air Defence Forces reported the downing of 18 combat drones in the Odesa, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia and Ternopil regions.

In the Odesa region, the Russians launched a missile attack on the port infrastructure in Odesa, a major seaport in the south-west of the country. One civilian was killed and five foreigners suffered injuries. The Russian army also shelled the Odesa region and Chornomorsk with combat drones, damaging residential buildings and the administrative building of a production company. The regional military administration reported no casualties. 

In the Kharkiv region, the Russians shelled Kupiansk, Zolochiv, Myronivka and Perovske. Two civilians were injured. 

In the Donetsk region, the Russian army launched 289 attacks on Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Kurakhove, Myrnohrad, Siversk, Sloviansk, Toretsk, Velyka Novosilka, Kurakhivka, Bohoiavlenka, Kleban Byk, Nelipivka, Nykanorivka, Sontsivka and Staryi Karavan. One civilian was killed and twelve others were injured, including two children. Fifteen residential buildings, two administrative buildings, a car wash, three civilian cars, trucks and a farm were damaged. 

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, south-central Ukraine, the Russians shelled the communities of Nikopol, Marhanets, Myrove and Pokrovsk. Private homes were damaged. The regional military administration reports no casualties. 

In the Zaporizhzhia region, partially occupied in the south since 2022, the Russians carried out an airstrike on Zaporizhzhia. Six civilians were injured. In total, the Russians shelled 13 settlements in the region, damaging 16 private houses.

In the Kherson region, south of Ukraine, partially occupied since 2022, the Russians shelled Prydniprovske, Zymivnyk, Antonivka, Sadove, Komyshany, Bilozerka, Novodmytrivka, Tomyna Balka, Shyroka Balka, Sofiivka, Stanislav, Shliakhove, Beryslav, Monastyrske, Mylove and Kherson. Twenty-four civilians were injured, including four children. One civilian died. Fourteen multi-storey buildings, fifteen private houses and private cars were damaged. 

In the Sumy region, bordering Russia to the north, the Russians shelled 25 settlements in the area 185 times. Two civilians died. Six houses, 2 outbuildings, a car, an administrative building and the premises and agricultural machinery of an agricultural company, including 7 tractors, a loader and a lorry, were damaged. 

In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the north, the Russians shelled the village of Halahanivka, Semenivka municipality. The regional military administration reported no casualties.
