Russian missile attack on Ukraine's Kharkiv kills one, injures 15, including two children

On the night of September 9, Russia attacked Ukraine with three X-59/69 guided missiles and eight Shahed combat UAVs.

The Air Force Command reported the downing of two missiles and six combat UAVs in the Kyiv, Cherkasy, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Two drones lost radar contact, and the third missile did not reach its target.

In the Kharkiv region, bordering Russia in the east of Ukraine, the Russians shelled Kharkiv, Malynivka, Hrushivka, Kupiansk, Berezivka, Vyshche Solone, Zolochiv, Kolodiazne, Derhachi, Novoosynove and Florynka. One civilian was killed and 15 others were wounded, including two children. Thirty-eight houses, a utility building, four lock-ups, five cars and outbuildings got damaged. The shelling caused at least five fires in the open area.

The Russians shelled 183 localities in the Zaporizhzhia region, partially occupied in the south since 2022: Robotyne, Malynivka, Novoandriivka, Prymorske, Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Orikhove, Preobrazhenka, Tavriiske, Lobkove, Mahdalynivka and Levadne. The regional military administration received 23 reports of residential buildings and infrastructure being destroyed. No casualties were reported.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, south-central Ukraine, the Russians assaulted the Pavlohrad, Nikopol, Marhanets and Pokrovsk communities. A 16-year-old girl was killed in the morning shelling in Nikopol, next to the temporarily occupied Enerhodar, where Zaporizhzhia NPP is located. Three other civilians were wounded. A cafe, a supermarket, three private houses, an outbuilding, a gas pipeline and a power line were damaged. 

In the Mykolaiv region, south of Ukraine, the Russians targeted the Kutsurub and Ochakivka communities. One civilian died as a result of the shelling. Two residential buildings and a car were damaged.

In the Sumy region, bordering Russia to the north, the Russians fired 107 times at Yunakivka, Myropillia, Sumy, Velyka Pysarivka, Khotin, Krasnopillia, Esman, Bilopillia, Shalyhyne, Svesa, Berezivka, Nova Sloboda, Putivl, Yampil, and Seredyna-Buda communities. Two civilians received injuries.

In the Donetsk region, located on the frontline in the east of Ukraine and partially occupied since 2014, the Russian army shelled Hirnyk, Kostiantynivka, Kurakhove, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Siversk, Cherkaske, Hannivka, Illinivka, Katerynivka, Mykolaivka, Ostrovske and Ridkodub. Three civilians died and five others suffered injuries. Fifty-one residential buildings, a workshop, outbuildings, cars and critical infrastructure were damaged.

In addition, search operations have ended in the destroyed hotel in Mykolaivka,  hit by three FAB-250 bombs. Rescuers recovered the bodies of two civilians from the ruins.

In the Chernihiv region, bordering Belarus and Russia to the north, the Russians shelled Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka and Snovsk communities. Border guards recorded over a hundred and fifty explosions. The shelling caused fires in residential buildings. No casualties were reported.

In the Kherson region, south of Ukraine, partially occupied since 2022, the Russian army shelled Kherson, Antonivka, Beryslav, Veletenske, Havrylivka, Honcharne, Komyshany, Mykilske, Mylove, Pryozerne, Poniativka, Novokaiiry, Novoberyslav, Shevchenkivka, Kachkarivka, Stanislav, Sadove, Odradokamianka, Tokarivka, and Zmiivka. Eleven people sustained injuries. The shelling damaged residential areas, a multi-storey building, nine private houses, a shop, a gas pipeline and private cars. 

In the Luhansk region, almost completely occupied by Russia, Russians launched 98 unmanned aerial vehicles to attack Nevske and Makiivka. The regional military administration reports no casualties.

In the Cherkasy region, central Ukraine located along the Dnieper River, a fire broke out due to the falling wreckage of a downed drone. No casualties were reported.
