Russia involves far-right biker communities in abductions of Ukrainian children
U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Criminal Justice Beth Van Schaack has said that Russia is involving non-governmental organisations, such as far-right biker communities, in the abduction of Ukrainian children.
Beth Van Schaack said this at the United for Justice conference. War Crimes against Ukrainian Children conference in Toronto.
Van Skaak said that Russia's filtration programmes are a violation of the Geneva Conventions, and the mass deportation of Ukrainian children has become a "horrific phenomenon". In her opinion, what is happening in Ukraine can be described as crimes against humanity.
The US also has information about Belarus' involvement in child abductions. Children are taken from Ukraine through the occupied territories to Russia and then to Belarus.
Among the mechanisms that can be used to bring war criminals to justice are the organisation of a tribunal for the crime of aggression; prosecution of criminals in international institutions; and prosecution for international crimes in the courts of other countries.
