Russia has stolen $1 billion worth of grain from Ukraine

Russia has stolen $1 billion worth of Ukrainian grain and exported it to global commodity markets.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal stated this.

"The occupiers have prepared the technical equipment to steal and export 12,000 tonnes of grain a day from the occupied territories. They only partially succeeded, as the heroic resistance of the Ukrainians forced the enemy to retreat. But the amount stolen is impressive - millions of tonnes of grain worth about $1 billion. Russia's robbery of Ukraine continues even now," Shmyhal said.

This year's harvest in Ukraine is expected to be over 79 million tonnes. This is 10% more than in 2022. Ukraine will be able to meet its domestic needs with 25% of the harvest. The rest will be exported.

"The Grain from Ukraine programme has been joined by 30 countries and international organisations, which have raised $180 million to buy Ukrainian grain. We (Ukraine — ed.) have sent 170,000 tonnes of food to Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya. Soon, we will send another 25,000 tonnes to Nigeria," added Denys Shmyhal.
