Russia and Belarus sign document on deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and Belarusian Defence Minister Viktor Khrenin signed documents on the deployment of Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons in a special storage facility in Belarus - the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Belarus.

Viktor Khrenin called the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus "an effective response to the aggressive policy of unfriendly states" and expressed hope that it would make the leadership of those states "think about the inadmissibility of further escalation of the situation in the region".

As a reminder, Vladimir Putin said that the storage facilities should be built by July 1. Control over nuclear weapons remains with Russia. Russia has already handed over an Iskander tactical missile system to Belarus.
