Romania wants to increase the transit capacity of Ukrainian grain.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania, Sorin Grindeanu, announced this.

Transit is planned to increase from two to four million tonnes per month.

"We have agreed that the export of Ukrainian grain should be accelerated in the context of the known attacks on the Ukrainian ports of Reni and Izmail that have taken place in recent weeks," said Sorin Grindeanu.

He also added that the Sulina branch is now "the only viable waterway" for grain transit, so "it is important to optimise the capacity of this route."

On August 11, representatives of the United States, the European Union, Moldova, and Romania met in Galați, Romania, to discuss alternative routes for transporting grain from Ukraine.
