Romania and the Netherlands agree to establish F-16 pilot training centre

On August 29, the Ministers of Defence of the Netherlands and Romania signed an agreement to establish a training centre for F-16 pilots and the maintenance of these aircraft.

This is reported on the website of the Dutch Ministry of Defence.

The American aircraft manufacturer Lockheed Martin will be involved in the base's operation. The company will also provide technical support.

The facility in Romania will initially be used for advanced training courses for F-16 instructors. Later, it will be used as a training centre for Ukrainian pilots and NATO allies. The aircraft will fly only in NATO airspace.

Back in July, Romania's Supreme Defence Council voted to establish a regional pilot training centre, which will include both NATO and Ukrainian pilots.
