Putin: The tragedy experienced by Israelis and Palestinians is the result of the US' failed policy in the Middle East
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Americans were trying to monopolise the Middle East settlement but "never took into account the fundamental interests of the Palestinian people". This, in his opinion, led to the fighting.
Putin said this during a speech at a meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States Heads of State Council in Bishkek.
Putin also said that the ground operation in Gaza "threatens to have serious consequences for all parties" and that the most important thing now is to stop the bloodshed.
"Russia is ready to coordinate with all constructively minded partners. We proceed from the fact that there is no alternative to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through negotiations. Their goal should be the implementation of the United Nations two-state formula, which provides for the creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, coexisting in peace and security with Israel," the Russian President said.
The Hamas group write on its Telegram channel that it "appreciates" Putin's position "on the abandonment of aggression and the blockade of Gaza" and "welcomes Russia's tireless efforts to end the barbaric, systematic aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip".
