Medyka, Poland (Svidomi) — Polish farmers unblock the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint on the border with Ukraine.
They have unblocked the movements of trucks.
On February 9, Polish and Hungarian farmers organised a strike on the border with Ukraine. They had demanded to cancel the duty-free export of Ukrainian products.
In Hungary, the agrarians blocked border crossings point Záhony-Chop, and Polish ones blocked Medyka-Shehyni, Hrebene-Rava Ruska, and Dorohusk-Yahodyn.
Earlier, Polish agrarians had claimed that they plan to protest for the month. They pulled up to the border agricultural machinery.
Poles said they are ready to prevent over-freighting Ukrainian agricultural goods from rail to road transport on the border crossing point Hrubieszów-Volodymyr Volynskyi.
At the same time, Polish farmers are blocking the roads across the country. The tractors go out on the driveways.
The agrarians said Ukrainian goods do not meet UE requirements. Most of them are cheap and contain GMOs so that the producers can go bankrupt.
On January 31, the European Commission officially proposed to extend the duty-free regime for exports from Ukraine for a year until mid-2025. However, it is not as liberal as in the previous two years and considers the specifics of EU farmers. The new autonomous trade measures provide quotas on the most sensitive products — poultry, eggs, and sugar.
