Paramedic Yuliia "Taira" Paievska receives the International Women of Courage Award
Ukrainian paramedic and volunteer Yulia Payevska (callsign "Taira") has won the International Women of Courage Award.
This is stated on the US Department of State website.
They note that Paievska has demonstrated extraordinary moral and physical courage in defending Ukraine from Russian aggression.
They mention that in 2013, Paievska provided medical treatment to the Revolution of Dignity protestors and led the Taira's Angels evacuation team.
The award ceremony will take place on March 8, hosted by US First Lady Jill Biden and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
The Women of Courage Award recognises women from around the world who have demonstrated exceptional courage, strength, and leadership in advocating for peace, justice, human rights, gender equity and equality, and the empowerment of women and girls in all their diversity — often at great personal risk and sacrifice.
