Norway imposes new sanctions against Russia

On October 2, Norway joined the 11th package of EU sanctions against Russia, which was introduced in early summer.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this on its website.

"Norway stands with Europe in reacting to Russia's attack on Ukraine, which is in violation of international law. In solidarity with Ukraine, we have supported all EU sanctions packages. The eleventh sanctions package aims to strengthen the existing sanctions and to tackle their circumvention. This is important, as it is urgent to curb the flow of money that Russia is using to finance the brutal war of aggression," says Norwegian Minister for Foreign Affairs Anniken Huitfeldt.

Norway supported the EU sanctions by making certain national adjustments. These measures include a ban on the transit through the territory of Russia of equipment for use in the aviation or space industry, as well as jet fuel and fuel additives, and the addition of further exceptions to the provisions.

In addition, the prohibition on the sale of securities in any currency, including foreign currency, was expanded.

Norway has also expanded the list of legal entities related to the Russian defence sector subject to the export ban. This now includes imports of Russian oil supplied through the Druzhba pipeline to Poland and Germany. The lists of steel and iron products have also been amended.

Nevertheless, Oslo will not restrict access to ports for those vessels suspected of violating the ban on Russian oil imports.
