NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg calls on Allies to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine after the Kakhovka HPP explosion

On June 8, a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission was held. During the meeting, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on Allies to provide support to Ukraine.

The NATO press service released a statement after the meeting. 

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba informed the Allies about the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP dam and what it entailed.

Stoltenberg called the dam's destruction consequences for people and the environment "dramatic" and urged the Allies to provide immediate support. 

NATO's Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center has released a detailed list of Ukraine's most urgent needs.

NATO said some countries already provide Ukraine with water filters, pumps, generators, and shelter equipment. 

Stoltenberg also called for immediate, medium- and long-term support for Ukraine, mentioning this as a critical theme of NATO defence ministers and the Contact Group on Ukraine meetings next week, as well as the Vilnius Summit in July.
