Kosovo is a partially recognized state predominantly inhabited by Albanians. Previously, Kosovo was an autonomous region within Serbia, but it declared independence in a referendum in 1991. The authorities of the then Yugoslavia deployed paramilitary forces into Kosovo, carrying out ethnic cleansing against Albanians. Subsequently, the country came under the control of UN peacekeepers.
In February 2008, the Kosovo parliament unilaterally declared independence again, but Serbia considers the region its territory. Ukraine has not officially recognized Kosovo's independence; however, since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Pristina has supported Kyiv. President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Kosovo's President Vjosa Osmani.
