Israel agrees to cease fire for 4 days, Hamas to return 50 hostages in exchange
The Cabinet of Israel has approved an agreement to release 50 hostages in Gaza in exchange for a ceasefire.
The Times of Israel reports.
The agreement provides for the release of 50 living Israeli citizens, mostly women and children, in groups of 12-13 people per day.
In return, Israel agreed to a four-day ceasefire for the first time since the war began. The country promises an additional one day of silence for every 10 people released.
Israel has also agreed to release Palestinian women and minors from prison and allow them to return to their homes, mainly in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The Israeli side did not specify the number of those to be released. However, Hamas claims that the number is around 150.
Israel has also agreed to allow additional fuel and significant amounts of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
