In the Czech Republic, over $1 million was raised in one month for a modernized T-72 tank for Ukraine
Fundraising began in early September as part of the "Gift for Putin" initiative. The organizers set a goal of 30 million Czech korunas (over €1 million), but about 11,000 people raised 33 million korunas (more than $1.3 million) in a month. According to the organizers, this is the first case of collecting money for a tank in European countries as part of a grassroots initiative.
The collected amount was used to buy a modernized Soviet T-72 tank with updated tracks, dynamic protection, and newer guidance systems. It was named Tomáš in honor of Tomáš Masaryk, the first President of Czechoslovakia. Before the start of the fundraiser, the organizers consulted with the Ukrainian side, and the Czech Ministry of Defense will take care of the tank transportation.
