"I don't think there is unanimity in NATO about whether or not to bring Ukraine into the NATO family now, in the middle of a war"

US President Joe Biden does not believe that there is unanimity in NATO on whether to bring Ukraine into the NATO family in the midst of a war. 

He said this during an interview with the US television channel CNN.

Despite the fact that Ukraine's membership in the Alliance is premature, the United States and its allies will support Ukraine with weapons.

Ukraine's attempts to join the Alliance will be one of the key issues during the NATO summit in Vilnius on July 11-12.

"For example, if you did that (supported Ukraine's accession to NATO - ed.), then, you know - and I mean what I say - we are determined to commit every inch of territory that is NATO territory. It’s a commitment that we’ve all made, no matter what (referring to paragraph five of the North Atlantic Treaty on Collective Defense - ed.) If the war is going on, then we’re all in war," the US president said.
