Germany joins Czech initiative to buy 800,000 shells for Ukraine outside the EU
Berlin, Germany (Svidomi) — Germany will provide funds for the purchase of artillery shells for Ukraine, German government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit said, German daily tageeschau.de reports.
Hebestreit called the Czech initiative "very good". He said the German government was in intensive negotiations with the Czech government on the issue.
"We will provide a three-digit million sum to support this initiative. This has not yet been finalised, but it will certainly be done shortly," Hebestreit said.
It will be recalled that President Petr Pavel announced that the Czech Republic, together with Canada and Denmark, had found 500,000 155 mm ammunition and 300,000 122 mm shells for Ukraine.
In addition, the Netherlands allocated EUR 250 million and Belgium allocated EUR 200 million for the initiative.
