Georgia to join NATO's Operation Sea Guardian

A group of 12 coastguard officers from the Georgia Border Police headed to Greece to join NATO's Operation Sea Guardian.

This was reported by the RFE/RL's Echo of the Caucasus.

Georgia became the first country to receive this status without NATO membership.

Operation Sea Guardian has three maritime security tasks:

  • Support maritime situational awareness;
  • Contribute to maritime security capacity building;
  • Support maritime counter-terrorism.

Upon arrival of the Georgian Coast Guard personnel in Greece, they will first conduct a preparatory exercise.
