European Parliament condemns Azerbaijan's armed attack on Nagorno-Karabakh
The European Parliament has condemned Azerbaijan's violent attack on Nagorno-Karabakh. 491 representatives voted in favour.
This is stated on the website of the European Parliament.
The parliamentarians believe that the current situation with Armenians fleeing Nagorno-Karabakh is ethnic cleansing, as more than 100,000 ethnic Armenians have been forced to leave the region.
The parliament calls on the EU to impose sanctions on government officials in Baku responsible for numerous ceasefire violations and human rights abuses in Nagorno-Karabakh.
They also believe that the EU should review its relations with Azerbaijan, in particular, suspend any talks on renewing its partnership with Baku, and if the situation does not improve, consider suspending the application of the EU visa facilitation agreement with the country.
MEPs also call on the EU to reduce its dependence on Azerbaijani gas imports and, in the event of military aggression or significant hybrid attacks against Armenia, to completely stop EU imports of Azerbaijani oil and gas.
They also call on Türkiye to contain Azerbaijan and condemn Türkiye's involvement in arming the country and its full support for Baku's offensive in 2020 and 2023.
It will be recalled that the UN Mission did not record any violations in Nagorno-Karabakh.
